View of Bamburgh Castle from Lindisfarne

Lindisfarne (also known as Holy Island) is a tidal island off the north-east coast of England, which is connected to the mainland of Northumberland by a causeway and is cut off twice a day by tides.
From Lindisfarne, it is possible to see Bamburgh Castle, standing on an ancient rocky outcrop overlooking miles of beautiful sandy beach. The castle has been extensively restored, first by Lord Crewe in the 1750's and more recently by the first Lord Armstrong at the end of the 19th century. The castle continues to be the home of the Armstrong family.
