Mallaig is at the end of the Road to the Isles. Once the largest herring port in Europe, Mallaig is still a thriving fish port and also has a lot of ferries arriving and departing for the Isle of Skye and the Small Isles, including Rum and Eigg. Local fishing boats unload white fish as well as crabs, lobsters and prawns, while seagulls swoop down on them trying to steal their catch.
